Rotary Club of Madhyamgram Metropolitan had conducted Swarnakana Inter School Merit Test 2016-17 on 11th December 2016 at Madhyamgram High School. This year 518 students have appeared this merit test from 41 educational institutions. Very good response was being observed both from the students and educational institutions. This merit test has become very popular among the students, guardians and educationists not only of this area but also in the surrounding districts due to it’s standard, pragmatic syllabus, coverage and recognition of merit. It has been proved to be helpful for the students for preparing themselves for higher studies & crack competitive examinations. So far this test was being conducted among the students of class-IX, X, XI, & XII. This year we have introduced test of mathematics among the students of class-V, VI, VII & VIII to make them grow more interest on the subject which will help them a lot in their further studies. This mega award distribution event was organised by the club on 4th February 2017 at Nazrul Satabarshiki Sadan, Madhyamgram to distribute awards to the merit test rank holders .Top two schools were awarded for maximum number of successful students and highest number of participants in the merit test. The program was designed with a cultural extravaganza – sa-re-ga-ma-pa fame singers Aritra, Senjuti and Kaushik, classical songs by Subhodeep and dance performance by Sayantan and cancer survivor Anjali. A cheque of Rs. 25,000/- on behalf of our club and Rs. 9,700/- instantly from the audience was handed over to the 14 year old cancer survivor Anjali Roy. The program was efficiently moderated by our PP Rtn. Debasish Banerjee. The whole program was very well conceived and successfully held in the presence of auditorium-full of audience of 800 capacities. Students and Vocational awardees expressed their contentment while receiving the awards and the artists performed very well. Channel partner of the program was Channel One. Dignitaries from different sphere of the society, students, educationists, Rotary leaders, District Governor, Rotarians, Ann and family members were present. This was a multi-avenue service project indeed: Swarnakana Inter School Merit Test – New Generations service project, & circulation of Rotary 4 way Test among the audience – Vocational service project, Extending our hand to a young cancer survivor – Community service project and the whole presentation – Public Relations service. Based on the feedback received from the audience, students, guardians, dignitaries and Rotary Ratna awardees the program has touched their hearts and this was really a Rotary Image event highlighting the Rotary to the public at large.
