About Us
Rotary Club of Madhyamgram Metropolitan, One of the three new clubs in Rotary Centenary year, was sponsored by R.C. Dum Dum with 23 members. The idea of forming this club was mooted in April 2005. A few Rotarian and a group of like minded people, mainly friends were invited to form the Rotary Club of Madhyamgram Metropolitan. They requested R.C. Dum Dum to sponsor the club.Rtn. Goutam Bose of R.C. Dum Dum was appointed Governor's special Representative by the DG Rtn. Probir Chakraborty. According to the Survey report of GSR Rtn. Goutam Bose, DG Rtn. Prabir Chakraborty took initiative to register the club.
The Charter was signed on 13 June, 2005 and on 21 August 2005 it was formally presented to Charter President Rtn. Kamal Chakraborty by IPDG Rtn. Prabir Chakraborty. Rtn. Dr. Subhash Ch. Ghosh was the first secretary. The next president of this club was Rtn. Biswa Nath Ghosh and Secretary Rtn. Subal Kr. Paik, Rtn. Kanai Lai Paul and Rtn. Chandan Dutta Gupta for the year 2007 - 2008. In the year 2008-2009, President was Rtn Dr. Hianshu Bikash Naha and Secretary was Rtn. A. K. Basu Roy Chowdhury. Next president was Rtn. Chandan Dutta Gupta and Seretary was Rtn. Debasis Banerjee in the year 2009-2010. Rtn. Subal Kr. Paik and Rtn. Achin Bose were the president and secretary respectively in the year 2010-2011. The next president was Rtn. Kalyan Bose and secretary was Alok Nath Saha in the year 2011 -2012. Rtn Namai Pada Majumder and Rtn. Subhash Ch. Dey in the year 2012-2013, Rtn Debasish Banerjee and Rtn. Prabhal Kr. Ghosh in the year 2013-2014 and Rtn. Subhash Ghosh and Rtn. Arun
Samaddar in the year 2014-2015 were the Presidents & secretaries respectively. The most remarkable and amazing achievement of this newly born club is to build its own club venue Rotary Sadan at Bankimpally, Madhyamgram which was officially innaugurated on 13 June, 2006 on the occasion of its 1st Installation Ceremony. Now the club in
this year membership strength is 30 including two honorary members. During the Rota-year 2012-2013, three members have joined our club namely Rtn. Aparna Roychowdhury, Rtn. Asok Nandi and Rtn. Ananda Roy. Rtn. Rathin Ghosh, MLA and Chairman, Madhyamgram Municipality and Sri Subrata Bose, National Treacher are the Honorary Members of this club. Our club has a great contribution to the Rotary Foundation. We have with us Major Donor PP Biswanath Ghosh PHS, PP Kalyan Kr. Bose & President Kanailal Paul MPHF, Subal Kr. Paik PHF, Probir Dey RFSM, Dibakar Roy Chowdhury PHF, Tapan Paul PHF, Chandan Dutta Gupta PHF, Achin Bose MPHF, Alok Nath SahaPHF and Rtn. Nemai Pada Majumder RFSM.
The thrust area of our club in the first year was to promote fellowship amongst the members. Attendance of Regular weekly Meeting is to be proud of a healthy 70% to 80% on an average. During this short period of its ongoing existance our club has been involved in activities in all avenues of service. Specially the club is successfully engaged in rendering various community care projects of them Health Check-up-Camp, Eye Screening and Cataract operation, Blood Grouping and Blood Donation Camp, Distribution of Books, Puja dresses and winter dresses. Sinking
Tubewells are to be specially mentioned. In addition, our club has successfully organised Rotary Road Rally for Mass awareness of Thalassemia & AIDS, RCC District Assembly, Pulse Polio Programme in every date and organised twice Multi District RYLA in the year 2006 and 2007. Our club also sponsored three Rotaract club and one Rotary Club. These are Rotaract Club of Madhyamgram Metropolitan, Rotaract Club of Dum Dum Metropolitan and Rotaract Club of Barasat Central and Rotary Club of Barasat Metropolitan. We have sponsored another new Rotary club 'Calcuta North Central' in the Roto-year 2011 2012. We also sponsored RCC Zeerakpur Ankur at Basirhat and "Aalor Disha" at Jeevanpur, Barachampa. We also formed RC Madhyamgram Metropolitan Trust on November 2005. Al! members of this Club are dedicated to render service above self.

Extended financial support to 2 child cancer survivors; 2) Extended scholarships to 2 needy meritorious students for their higher studies; 3) Arranged Mid-day meal for the students of 1 Govt. sponsored primary school & 3 students' hostel of underprivileged children and also organised sit & draw & quiz competitions, distributed educational instruments to them; 4) Organised 2 literacy projects by distributing educational instruments and text books to street children and orphan children respectively; 5) Offered clothes to elderly destitute ladies and school bags to street children with dinner, Borne the cost of ration for 1 year for 3 such ladies; 6) Organised Swarnakana Inter-School Merit Test. In which 518 Students of class-V to XII have appeared from 41 educational institutions; 7) Organised Rotary Public Image programs - Swarnakana Inter-School Merit Test Award and Vocational Excellence Award Rotary Ratna distribution ceremony and Sharad Samman 2016-17; 8) Distributed a Computer with all accessories, Printer & Computer Table to Ramakrishna Math and 22 Ceiling Fans to Bharat Sevashram Sangha; 9) Constructed 2 Hand Wash Stations under WinS. One with 4 taps at a Govt. sponsored primary school and the other with 6 taps, water pump and necessary pipelines for drinking water under aegis of EIRWT at a Govt. sponsored high school; 10) Distributed cotton bed mattresses, shataranchi, pillow, bed sheets, mosquito net and school bags containing all educational instruments costing Rs. 1,500/- each to 50 under privileged students at Horekhali students' home run by Bharat Sevashram Sangha; 11) Our Global Grant Project – Rotary Clinic for Treatment & Prevention of Diseases and Vision Care have been approved during this centennial year of The Rotary Foundation and the project is in progress. We have contributed an amount of US $ 10.108 to TRF during the year; 12) Organised Family Value Programs - Raksha Bandhan along with a stress management & meditation session, Club Bijoya Sammilani, Club Picnic, Club Holi Meet, Club Baishakhi Adda and Parents' Day, Club Charter Night & Award Ceremony; 13) Co-hosted 7 District 3291 programs and 1 RYLA & 1 Humanitarian project with other clubs of the district; 14) Created our club website, facebook page and whatsApp groups; Introduced 3 new members, published monthly club bulletins, ensured good attendance in RWM, Board Meeting & Club Assemblies, Updated My Rotary & Rotary Club Central on regular basis,celebrated birthdays of club members & family members and anniversaries of club members & Ann.

This was prior planned & eventful year with full of service Projects. ‘Swabikash’ is our another Flagship dream Projects has already started. This was really eventful year with excellent leadership of our President Rtn Subash Chandra Dey. On the basis of Projects District 3291 leadership awarded five number best prizes - 1.Public Image of Rotary 2. Swarnakana Merit Test. 3.Rotary Clinic 4. Outstanding President of the year. More over District 3291 recognize our Club as ‘Ideal Rotary Family’. Almost all Projects already completed. Glimpses of Projects service carried out 2017- 18 are- Stone Laying Ceremony for renovation of building for 'Rotary Clinic for Treatment & Prevention of Diseases and Vision Care' - a Rotary Global Grant Project under the aegis of The Rotary Foundation, RID 6760, RID 3291, RC Brentwood & RC Madhyamgram Metropolitan Free health checkup camp at Nijoloy Home , Madhyamgram on 1st July Our club contribute to Mr. Ratan Sur for cancer treatment on 31st july. It was donated to our trust by Mrs Kalpana Poddar in memories of his mother. Our club contribute to Mr. Biplab Guha for cancer treatment on 31st july. Our dream of providing Medical Service will become a reality on a fine morning of coming 10th December . Underprivileged people will no longer fearful towards medical expenses. For more information please keep an eye on our page and website Rotary Clinic Inauguration by Dr Sashi Panja It was a successful day on 10th December when our clinic were inaugurated by DG,PDG,IPDG,PRID and other district officials and Dr Sashi Panja.Our global partner Rtn Dr Molly Chatterjee and Rtn. Roland c Walker of Rc Brentwood were also present during inauguration . We were inspired by their motivating speech regarding clinic. On 28 th Dec.a joint press meet at kolkata press club with President and other doctors of AAPI and rotarian of Rc Brentwood ,Tn to address about signed MOU between RC Madhyamgram Metropolitan and AAPI. AAPI and us will work jointly through our clinic. We will organise a free health checkup camp with doctors of AAPI on 29 th Dec at Madhyamgram. . This is for the first time in kolkata that AAPI will work jointly. We had a successful press meet at press club to announce collaboration with AAPI and our global partner for rotary clinic ,Rotary club of Brentwood ,Tn . We also announced about free mega health check up camp on 29th dec by NRI doctors of AAPI. We also declared that in next 2 to 3 year we will start a full scale hospital. Thank you everyone. Our great effort to organise a free mega health checkup camp in collaboration with our partner AAPI was very successful. Total 350 patients were examined by our clinic and AAPI doctors on 29th Dec,2017. It was published today at Bengali Statesman paper (page no 6) and sanbad nojar bengali paper. We are thankful to the photographer Mr Subal saha and Reporter Mr Tapos Chowdhury. Rotary Clinic (An Unit of Rotary Club of Madhyamgram Metropolitan) started Cataract Surgery on 03/02/2018. Health check-up camp at Howrah yubo sansad club successfully done with the doctors of rotary clinic. Total 54 patients undergone free eye check-up, fasting blood sugar test and medical screening for chronic problems. Total 13 patients detected cataract and surgery will be done on 5th March. Free eye check-up camp and cataract screening by doctors, optometrists of rotary clinic at Madhyamgram Hindu Milan Mandir on 25th February. Total 45 patients were screened. Further treatment will be done at our clinic. On 18th March we were successful organized a blood donation camp jointly with Doharia association club at Doltala. We are thankful to our president Rtn. Your clothes and beaten rice have been carried by our PP Rtn. Kalyan Kumar Bose and President Rtn. Subhas Chandra Dey for delivery today. Substantial quantities of rice, dal, beaten rice, tripal, medicine, clothes etc. are being donated to the flood victims by R.I. District 3291 through Bharat Sevashram Sangha. On 15 th August we were celebrated National Flag hosting at club venue followed by community service project(non-medical) at Pranab kanya Bharat Sevashram sangha. 50 bed roll were distributed to students,quiz and drawing competition had been organised there followed by prize distribution. There were dance performance by students. At the end midday meal had been organised. In was co-hosted by Rotaract club of Barasat central.Total project cost Rs 45000. On 24 th Sept.,It was a successful tree implantation project this morning where we were implanted 110 trees near kapasia area. Our president Rtn. Subhas Chandra Dey took active initiative to organise this project. Rotary sarad samman - It is a project to create awarness about rotary and it's work towards the society as well as a fellowship among the club members and family members during durga puja. Like every year judges team along with our members, president and his team were visited puja pandels of Madhyamgram and Newbarackpore on Maha Sasthi evening. Our project banner were already given to puja committees for displaying in favourable position near the pandels so that it can be seen by pandel visitors. As this is our permanent project for last few years ,it became popular in this areas. Prize distribution will be done on the day of Maha Ostomi. Being a bengali we all know how important Durga Pujo is for all of us. New clothes is a customary ritual over the years for every single bongs. This year we were tried to spread smile among the children of Rani Bhavani School by giving them new clothes just before the pujo so that they can feel exactly the way a privileged child feel. Our members were visited Gangasagar Bharat Sevashram Sangha Ashram on 27th to 28th April and distributed 11 ceiling fan as per Ashram's requirement. On 10th September during pulse polio immunisation month we were monitored immunisation process in Madhyamgram Area. Our member PP Rtn. Subol Paik took active initiative. Joint meeting with Rotary club of Jessore Milani, Jessore central, Jessore Avaynagar during district conference on 7th jan,2018. We were participated Pulse polio immunisation programme today with Rotarians of London and international polio committee members, visited our clinic and polio booths of Madhyamgram. Joint meeting and flag exchange with International pulse polio committee members of 9 rotary clubs of England on 29th January. Joint meeting with Rotary Club of Jessore Rupantor on 17th june. Inaugurated by National Anthem by members and Ann followed by opening dance. Inspiring speech by Prof Sibranjan Chatterjee successfully motivated not only the students but everyone including parents,members,family members who were presents at Najrulmancha. Along with individual awards Madhyamgram Girls high school received highest participation award and St Jude School got best school award.Flute by PanditMrityunjoy Mukherjee, wonderful songs by Pankaj Natta and Suvankar made the audience delightful. When you are committed to support, you help one child between the ages of 6 – 18 years to move away from the perils of early marriage, child labour, avoids exploitation and become empowered and educated. Starting this December, Rotary Club of Madhyamgram Metropolitan announces project "SwaBikash" to build a better future for children by providing them access to education and accommodation which will in turn create Independent Citizens and Leaders for our community in long run.Today 11/03/2018 we were distributed books to the students of Bajitpur Bharat sevashramsangha ashram as per their requirements under Basanta- Ranu Literacy project. This is the 4th student we took responsibility to build a better future under the project SwaBikash. On 30th April members handed over Rs 35000 to Master AyushmanDutta , a student of class IX so that he can continue his studies. Community service non-medical project (SishuBikash)-- Distribution of educational kits for the children and financial contribution for their study to Dokra Bharat Sevashram ashram were done on 16th June. This is our permanent project. Subho Bijaya to all of you. Our next familial fellowship programme Bijaya Sammeloni on 8th October, 2017 at the residence of PP Rtn. Kalyan Bose. Rotary Clinic building renovation inauguration Puja and raksha Bandhan celebration on 6/8/17 Rotary always teaches us the fact that along with responsibilities of socio-economic ,health and educational development of the community we also need to develop a strong family bonding, to realise the values of fellowship among the family members in the era of fast mechanical corporate life. Because a family is a small unit of society. Our Rotarian members and family members are following the same. On 4th March we were celebrated Basanta Utsab with a cultural evening and dinner, hosted and sponsored by Rtn Ashok Nandy. 8th of May was a sad day in the history of our club as our vice president Rtn. Dr Arabinda Basu Roy Chowdhury departed from this mortal world to peaceful heaven. By his sincerity, dedication, punctuality our club activities got a Hugh success. His absence will be great impact on us. May his soul rest in peace. There is a famous quote that Human being will be immortal through his work. To honour his activities we will dedicate a permanent health related project in his name. Our club members bonding with his family members will be remain same as before all the time. A condolence meeting has been held on 27th May for sad demise of Rtn. A K Basu Roy Chowdhury. Members expressed their memories with his family members. Most prestigious rotary award that every Rotarian wish to have Paul Harris Fellowship recognition from rotary international foundation, this year he was selected to receive the award for his dedication and financial contribution towards our rotary clinic. Unfortunately he was not able to receive in his own hand. It was handed over to family members. Charter night celebration and prize distribution ceremony were celebrated in the month of 9 th at Sinclair Hotel, Kalingpong. Our club chartered on 13th June, 2018. Our great effort to organise a free mega health checkup camp in collaboration with our partner AAPI was very successful. Total 350 patients were examined by our clinic and AAPI doctors on 29th Dec,2017. It was published today at Bengali Statesman paper (page no 6) and sanbad nojar bengali paper. We are thankful to the photographer Mr Subal saha and Reporter Mr Tapos Chowdhury. Rotary Clinic (An Unit of Rotary Club of Madhyamgram Metropolitan) started Cataract Surgery on 03/02/2018. Health check-up camp at Howrah yubo sansad club successfully done with the doctors of rotary clinic. Total 54 patients undergone free eye check-up, fasting blood sugar test and medical screening for chronic problems. Total 13 patients detected cataract and surgery will be done on 5th March. Free eye check-up camp and cataract screening by doctors, optometrists of rotary clinic at Madhyamgram Hindu Milan Mandir on 25th February. Total 45 patients were screened. Further treatment will be done at our clinic. On 18th March we were successful organized a blood donation camp jointly with Doharia association club at Doltala. We are thankful to our president Rtn. Subal Paik, Rotary clinic doctor & team , Doharia association. .On 08-04-2018 we were successfully organized a free eye checkup camp in collaboration with rotary clinic at Duttapukur. ON 21st July ANNAKANA MID DAY MEAL held at Shyama Charan Primary School.Total 270 students were participated along with their teachers and club members ,ann,children. It was co-sponsored by PP Rtn Kalyan Bose, Rtn Dr Pratik Mitra and Ann Basu Sumana. Thank you all for your generous support for the flood victims organised by rotary district 3291. Your clothes and beaten rice have been carried by our PP Rtn. Kalyan Kumar Bose and President Rtn. Subhas Chandra Dey for delivery today. Substantial quantities of rice, dal, beaten rice, tripal, medicine, clothes etc. are being donated to the flood victims by R.I. District 3291 through Bharat Sevashram Sangha. On 15 th August we were celebrated National Flag hosting at club venue followed by community service project(non-medical) at Pranab kanya Bharat Sevashram sangha. 50 bed roll were distributed to students,quiz and drawing competition had been organised there followed by prize distribution. There were dance performance by students. At the end midday meal had been organised. In was co-hosted by Rotaract club of Barasat central.Total project cost Rs 45000. On 24 th Sept.,It was a successful tree implantation project this morning where we were implanted 110 trees near kapasia area. Our president Rtn. Subhas Chandra Dey took active initiative to organise this project. Rotary sarad samman - It is a project to create awarness about rotary and it's work towards the society as well as a fellowship among the club members and family members during durga puja. Like every year judges team along with our members, president and his team were visited puja pandels of Madhyamgram and Newbarackpore on Maha Sasthi evening. Our project banner were already given to puja committees for displaying in favourable position near the pandels so that it can be seen by pandel visitors. As this is our permanent project for last few years ,it became popular in this areas. Prize distribution will be done on the day of Maha Ostomi. Best idol, best theme,best decoration, best lighting work, position of banner, pandels with a social message are the column under which we gave the points.Total project sponsored by PP Rtn Nemai Pada Majumdar. Utsab: ''Notun saje,Notun Asha''- Distribution of New Clothes to the students of Rani Bhabani School,Shyambazar on 17th September, organised and sponsored by our rotaract team of Rotaract Club of Barasat Central and partly co-sponsored by Rotary Club Of Madhyamgram Metropolitan. Being a bengali we all know how important Durga Pujo is for all of us. New clothes is a customary ritual over the years for every single bongs. This year we were tried to spread smile among the children of Rani Bhavani School by giving them new clothes just before the pujo so that they can feel exactly the way a privileged child feel. Our members were visited Gangasagar Bharat Sevashram Sangha Ashram on 27th to 28th April and distributed 11 ceiling fan as per Ashram's requirement. It was a successful joint meeting. PP Rtn. Kalyan Bose gave details of our club along with information on website,bulletin,social media involvement of our club. Information on global grant for rotary clinic for women & child and vision care also intimated to them. On 10th September during pulse polio immunisation month we were monitored immunisation process in Madhyamgram Area. Our member PP Rtn. Subol Paik took active initiative. We were participated Pulse polio immunisation programme today with Rotarians of London and international polio committee members, visited our clinic and polio booths of Madhyamgram. On 20 th August-Swarnakana interschool merit test successfully organised .Total 665 students were participated. It was followed by interactor and rotaractor development seminar done by our rotaractormembers . Students were given food packets( sponsored by Rtn. AvijitSadhukhan)and rest sponsored by PP Rtn.Kalyan Bose. There will be a quiz contest to be organised by us in recent future. We were short listed interested students for rotaract and interact after seminer ended. Starting this December, Rotary Club of Madhyamgram Metropolitan announces project "SwaBikash" to build a better future for children by providing them access to education and accommodation which will in turn create Independent Citizens and Leaders for our community in long run.Today 11/03/2018 we were distributed books to the students of Bajitpur Bharat sevashramsangha ashram as per their requirements under Basanta- Ranu Literacy project. This is the 4th student we took responsibility to build a better future under the project SwaBikash. On 30th April members handed over Rs 35000 to Master AyushmanDutta , a student of class IX so that he can continue his studies. Community service non-medical project (SishuBikash)-- Distribution of educational kits for the children and financial contribution for their study to Dokra Bharat Sevashram ashram were done on 16th June. Rotary Clinic building renovation inauguration Puja and raksha Bandhan celebration on 6/8/17 Rotary always teaches us the fact that along with responsibilities of socio-economic ,health and educational development of the community we also need to develop a strong family bonding, to realise the values of fellowship among the family members in the era of fast mechanical corporate life. On 4th March we were celebrated Basanta Utsab with a cultural evening and dinner, hosted and sponsored by Rtn Ashok Nandy. 8th of May was a sad day in the history of our club as our vice president Rtn. Dr Arabinda Basu Roy Chowdhury departed from this mortal world to peaceful heaven. By his sincerity, dedication, punctuality our club activities got a Hugh success. His absence will be great impact on us. May his soul rest in peace. There is a famous quote that Human being will be immortal through his work. To honour his activities we will dedicate a permanent health related project in his name. Our club members bonding with his family members will be remain same as before all the time. A condolence meeting has been held on 27th May for sad demise of Rtn. A K Basu Roy Chowdhury. Members expressed their memories with his family members. Most prestigious rotary award that every Rotarian wish to have Paul Harris Fellowship recognition from rotary international foundation, this year he was selected to receive the award for his dedication and financial contribution towards our rotary clinic. Unfortunately he was not able to receive in his own hand. It was handed over to family members. Charter night celebration and prize distribution ceremony were celebrated in the month of 9 th at Sinclair Hotel, Kalingpong. Our club chartered on 13th June, 2018. On behalf our Club, I thankful to all of our club members ,District Governor, District Secretariat,PDG,DGN,Sponsors. Without their support we could not achieved our goal.
